Sarah Everhardt Eyes Podium at U.S. Figure Skating Championships
WICHITA, Kan. — Sarah Everhardt, a senior at Battlefield High School and Haymarket resident, is poised for a strong finish at the 2024 Prevagen U.S. Figure Skating Championships after securing fourth place in the short program with a score of 70.72.
Everhardt trails three-time U.S. champion Alysa Liu, who leads with 76.36 points, followed by Bradie Tennell (71.23) and defending champion Amber Glenn (70.91). The free skate, scheduled for Friday, will determine the final standings. Everhardt will perform fourth-to-last among the 18 competitors, with NBC broadcasting the event live starting at 7:47 p.m. ET.
Last year, Everhardt surprised many by finishing fourth overall and earning the pewter medal in her senior-level debut. This season, she has built momentum with strong performances in international competitions, including a first-place finish at a Challenger Series event. “I know I have it in me,” Everhardt said in a recent interview. “When I go to a competition, I know that I’m capable of skating clean, doing my best.”
The competition has become more unpredictable after reigning world silver medalist Isabeau Levito withdrew, opening the door for Everhardt and other contenders to challenge for the podium. Everhardt’s consistent performances and clean programs have positioned her as a serious medal threat.
