Uconn Women's Basketball Sarah Strong March Madness

STORRS, Conn. — UConn women’s basketball player Sarah Strong is making her mark in the NCAA Tournament as the Huskies advance to the Elite Eight. Strong has earned attention not only for her on-court skills but also for her vibrant personality off the court.

During a recent press conference, UConn head coach Geno Auriemma praised Strong’s approach to the game. “She has no time for me, you or anybody else,” Auriemma said. “Her friends and teammates? That’s a whole different story. She’s very, very bright.”

Strong, a 6-foot-2 forward, has been showing her multi-talented side this season, which includes playing the piano and guitar. Roommate Kaitlyn Chen commented, “There’s never really a dull moment in our apartment,” highlighting Strong’s creativity. Strong humorously describes herself as “pretty funny” and embraces her playful side, often engaging her teammates with witty banter.

As UConn prepares for the Elite Eight matchup against an undisclosed competitor in Spokane, Washington, Strong is focused on treating it like any other game. “I’m just not going to try to think about it being the Elite 8. I don’t need the extra pressure,” she said.

Strong’s performances this tournament have made headlines as she recently recorded four consecutive double-doubles, setting a remarkable standard for a freshman. In her NCAA Tournament debut on March 22 against Arkansas State, she became the first player in the last 25 seasons to achieve a stat line of 20 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and five blocks.

UConn, where Strong is ranked as ESPN’s No. 1 recruit, has gained momentum through her impactful play, leading to comparisons with UConn legend Maya Moore. Following their victory over South Dakota State, which ended 91-57, Strong reflects on her contributions this season. “I think the moments that mean the most have been her biggest,” Auriemma noted.

In addition to her on-court success, Strong’s family and friends have also provided encouragement throughout the tournament. Alison Feaster, Strong’s mother and former WNBA All-Star, wished her daughter and the team well with a heartfelt message: “Allez Les Filles!!!!!”

With the Elite Eight approaching, UConn fans will be watching closely to see if Strong can lead her team further into the tournament, echoing the legacy of the greats who came before her.
