Steve Sarkisian Press Conference

Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed his frustration with ongoing media inquiries about backup quarterback Arch Manning, as he reiterated his support for starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. Sarkisian’s remarks came ahead of the highly anticipated game between the No. 1 ranked Longhorns and No. 4 ranked Georgia Bulldogs, set to take place at the DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.

Despite affirming Ewers as the team’s starter, Sarkisian faced repeated questions regarding Manning, a highly-touted prospect and nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning. Sarkisian was direct in his most recent press conference, stating, “I’m not even going to answer that. I don’t know what the question is. Next question.”

Ewers returned to the field against Oklahoma, after an abdominal strain sidelined him for two games. He ended the game with 199 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception. While Ewers was absent, talk of Manning’s potential ascension grew, focusing on his contributions during games against Kentucky and Mississippi State, where he amassed 583 passing yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Many fans are eager to see Manning take the field, but Sarkisian remains firm on his quarterback strategy. Reflecting on his personal playing experience in the Canadian Football League, Sarkisian stated, “When I was a starter, I never wanted the backup coming in the game, even for a play. So I’ve got respect for a guy who’s a starting quarterback and the rhythm that is needed to play with.” He emphasized that Manning’s development is crucial and praised the quarterback’s work ethic since joining the program.
