Sasha Barkov Wins Two NHL Awards, Surprises Kids at Hospital

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Florida Panthers captain Sasha Barkov received a surprise on Monday morning when he was awarded both the Selke Trophy and the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.
In an emotional ceremony at the Panthers’ practice facility, Barkov was presented with the awards by patients from Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital, where he has been a significant benefactor. He is the first player in NHL history to win both trophies in the same season.
‘Very surprised,’ Barkov said. ‘I was not expecting it at all. I am truly honored by that award.’
Barkov won the Selke Trophy for being the best defensive forward in the league for the third time in five seasons. He scored 71 points during the regular season and was a key player for the Panthers.
The King Clancy Trophy, which recognizes leadership and community contributions, holds special significance for Barkov. He has donated $1,600 for every goal and $800 for every assist to the children’s hospital, raising over $420,000 since 2019. His efforts have helped improve hospital facilities for kids battling serious health issues.
“Thank you guys,” Barkov said to the children at the hospital. “I know I don’t have much time right now to see you guys, so we really appreciate you coming here.”
In addition to financial support, Barkov connects with the kids during hospital visits, playing games and bringing joy to those facing difficult circumstances. He was recently noted for bringing the Stanley Cup to the hospital, sharing his achievements with the community he loves.
The NHL announced that Barkov will receive a $25,000 donation to a charity of his choice, and the Panthers could get a $20,000 grant for a special event related to his charity work.
Leading up to the Stanley Cup Final, the Panthers are focused on winning their second straight championship, with Game 1 set to take place in Edmonton on Wednesday night.
