Saskatchewan Roughriders Vs Ottawa Redblacks

In a notable encounter at Mosaic Stadium, the Saskatchewan Roughriders clinched a 29-16 victory over the Ottawa REDBLACKS, securing back-to-back wins. The match, held on Saturday afternoon, was marked by significant efforts from both teams’ kickers before the Roughriders pulled ahead with decisive second-half performances.

The Roughriders’ quarterback delivered an impressive game, completing 27 of his 36 passes for a total of 315 yards. The team’s sole touchdown was executed by their running back, who rushed for 72 yards on nine carries. Conversely, the REDBLACKS’ quarterback amassed 258 yards, a single touchdown, and three interceptions. Justin Hardy emerged as the leading receiver for the REDBLACKS, compiling 111 receiving yards.

The game initiated with the Roughriders on offense, with a significant 26-yard reception that quickly positioned them for a field goal. Saskatchewan’s kicker converted his first attempt from 35 yards, opening the scoring. Despite various attempts by both teams, the first quarter ended with Saskatchewan leading solely by field goals.

Early in the second quarter, the Roughriders’ defensive player, Rolan Milligan, intercepted a pass from the REDBLACKS’ quarterback, Jeremiah Masoli, marking his seventh interception of the season. This momentous play maintained the pressure on Ottawa and enabled further scoring opportunities for Saskatchewan.

As the game persisted, Saskatchewan’s kicker continued his successful streak, adding points with field goals from varying distances, including successful kicks from 33 and 39 yards. Meanwhile, the REDBLACKS struggled against the defensive efforts of the Roughriders, managing only a field goal from 37 yards during the first half.

The third quarter saw the Roughriders extend their lead with another field goal. Saskatchewan’s cornerback, a former REDBLACKS player, intercepted Masoli again, highlighting the defensive prowess on display. Despite various attempts, Ottawa could not convert their drives into touchdowns, resorting to further field goals to narrow the point deficit.

Finally, the Roughriders resolved their offensive struggles in the fourth quarter, scoring a touchdown via a 26-yard rush from Bertrand-Hudon and successfully completing a two-point conversion. The REDBLACKS managed a late-game touchdown between Masoli and Pimpleton, but it was insufficient as the game concluded with the Roughriders’ kicker securing the victory with a final 35-yard field goal.

This result places the REDBLACKS in a week of rest before their next match, whereas the Roughriders will face the Edmonton Elks on October 5th. The match-up will see both teams aiming to solidify their standings as the CFL season progresses.
