Scottie Scheffler Aims to Defend Title at 2025 RBC Heritage

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The 2025 RBC Heritage kicks off Thursday at the iconic Harbour Town Golf Links, welcoming a star-studded field vying for a share of the $20 million purse. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler seeks to build on his recent success, facing off against 43 of the world’s top 50 players.

This year’s tournament features a limited field of 72 elite competitors, with no cuts for Friday’s second round. The winner will secure $3.6 million along with 700 FedEx Cup points and a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour, adding to the stakes of this revered event.

“It’s a great golf course, one that tests your accuracy and versatility,” Scheffler said during a press conference. “You can’t just bomb it; you need to control your distance and position the ball well.”

Scheffler, who got off to a hot start in the first round, made birdies at his first two holes and added another on the fifth for an early score of three under. Having started in the morning for round one, he will tee off again at 1:30 p.m. ET on Friday.

This year’s event promises to deliver thrilling competition, as more than half of the players in the field participated in the recent Masters Tournament, including top finishers such as Justin Rose and Scheffler himself.

“We’re excited to see how the course plays this year,” said Scheffler. “With the potential wind and the layout, it will definitely challenge us all.”

Fans can tune in to watch the second round on the Golf Channel from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET, with streaming options available starting at 7:15 a.m. ET on Friday.
