World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler trails closely behind at seven under par, as the tournament unfolds at the challenging Torrey Pines South Course, following its relocation from the Riviera Country Club due to recent wildfires in Los Angeles.

The tournament has attracted significant attention, with numerous stars in contention. Rory McIlroy is positioned three shots back at five under, while rising star Ludvig Åberg sits four under par. Thompson, aiming for his second career PGA Tour victory after his breakthrough win at the 2024 John Deere Classic, completed a strong second round with a score of 66.
