Scottie Scheffler Arrest Golf Documentary

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In a surprising twist leading up to the third season of Netflix’s golf docuseries ‘Full Swing,’ PGA Tour player Scottie Scheffler found himself at the center of a chaotic incident that resulted in his arrest in May 2024. The incident unfolded just hours before the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club.

The arrest occurred when Scheffler, unknowingly disregarding police orders, drove into the golf club amid traffic congestion caused by an accident. As the situation escalated, an officer reached into Scheffler’s moving vehicle, resulting in the officer being pulled along and leading to Scheffler’s arrest.

Scheffler was ultimately charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, reckless driving, criminal mischief, and failure to comply with traffic signals. However, all charges were later dropped. The golfer reflected on the bizarre experience in the documentary, stating, ‘I was freaking out because I somehow went from driving into the golf course to a jail cell, and I still don’t really know how that happened, exactly.’

Body camera footage released in the documentary provides a glimpse of the arrest. After being placed in the police vehicle, Scheffler told the officer, ‘I didn’t think this was ever a position I’d be in.’ To which the officer replied, ‘Usually, people never do.’

In light of the incident, fellow PGA player Tom Kim recounted the moment, saying, ‘I’m warming up, and all I see is my friend, handcuffed, walking to a police car.’ It was a startling scene for everyone, especially knowing Scheffler held the No. 1 world ranking at the time.

Despite the events of that day, Scheffler showed remarkable resilience. After being released at 8:40 a.m., he returned to the course and shot a remarkable score of 66, finishing the tournament tied for eighth place. His 2024 season proved to be one for the record books, featuring nine wins and a second Masters victory, culminating in a FedEx Cup title.

The third season of ‘Full Swing’ promises to shed light on the highly-publicized arrest and its impact on Scheffler’s professional journey. The premiere is set for tomorrow.
