Scottie Scheffler Leads at CJ Cup Byron Nelson with Increased Prize Money

McKinney, Texas – The annual CJ Cup Byron Nelson kicked off this week at TPC Craig Ranch, featuring a total purse of $9.9 million, which marks a $400,000 increase from last year. The four-day event will see players competing in a familiar 72-hole stroke play format for the top prize of $1.782 million.
Scottie Scheffler, the world’s top-ranked golfer, is making headlines as he competes in his home state of Texas. Scheffler earned a two-shot lead following a stellar first round, where he recorded eight birdies and an eagle, finishing with a score of 61.
The tournament, while not classified as one of the PGA Tour’s signature events, offers crucial FedEx Cup points with a total of 500 available for the winner. Previous year’s champion, Taylor Pendrith, secured his maiden victory at this event in 2024 and is looking to defend his title.
In addition to Scheffler and Pendrith, notable participants include Jordan Spieth, Sungjae Im, and three-time Major winner Phil Mickelson, who is seeking to build momentum ahead of the upcoming PGA Championship.
The CJ Cup was previously held at Trinity Forest Golf Club before moving to its current location in 2021. TPC Craig Ranch is known for its lush fairways and rolling terrain. The winner of the tournament will not only take home a significant cash prize but also valuable experience heading into the rest of the season.
As the tournament progresses, updates on player standings and final payouts will follow, ensuring golf fans remain informed on the excitement unfolding in Texas.
