Scotty Pippen Jr. Emerges as Key Player for Grizzlies in NBA Playoffs

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Scotty Pippen Jr., son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen, has emerged as a vital player for the Memphis Grizzlies during the ongoing NBA playoffs, showcasing his talent and resilience on the court.
Pippen Jr. has transformed his career trajectory from a borderline NBA player to a playoff starter for Memphis. This remarkable rise comes despite the significant pressure that accompanies his surname, which is synonymous with basketball greatness.
“I’ve always seen my name as a motivation rather than a burden,” Pippen Jr. said in a recent interview. “I’m proud of my legacy but I want to create my own story in the NBA.”
His father, Scottie Pippen, is remembered as one of the greatest players in NBA history. Born in 1965, he spent most of his career with the Chicago Bulls, winning six championships alongside Michael Jordan. Interestingly, Scottie’s legal name on his birth certificate is Scotty, which is how he decided to name his son.
Larsa Pippen, Scotty Jr.’s mother, played a significant role in his upbringing and basketball journey. While Scottie Pippen has seven children, Scotty Jr. is currently the only one pursuing a professional basketball career. Recently, another of Scottie’s sons, Justin Pippen, announced his transfer to California to continue playing college basketball after starting at Michigan.
Scotty Pippen Jr. split his high school basketball career between Pine Crest School in Florida and Sierra Canyon School in California, both known for their competitive programs. He went on to play at Vanderbilt University, where his skills began to shine prominently. Despite his potential, Pippen Jr. went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft.
After signing with the Los Angeles Lakers and playing for their G League team, the South Bay Lakers, Pippen Jr. ultimately joined the Grizzlies in 2024. His initial impact on the team turned heads, as he quickly became a key figure in their rotation.
The Grizzlies have been reliant on his contributions as they navigate the playoffs, with Pippen Jr. showing a strong aptitude for high-pressure situations. His performance has piqued the interest of fans and analysts alike, who see shades of his father in his play.
With the playoffs in full swing, Pippen Jr.’s ability to step up and lead the Grizzlies could define not only his future but also mark a new chapter in the Pippen basketball legacy.
