Seahawks Add Marquez Valdes-Scantling on One-Year Deal

SEATTLE, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks have signed wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year contract valued at up to $5.5 million, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The move comes as the Seahawks seek to bolster their receiving corps following recent departures.
Valdes-Scantling, 30, joins Seattle after a season with both the Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints. He previously played a key role as a deep threat for the Saints, where he caught 17 passes for 385 yards and four touchdowns over eight games.
This signing reunites Valdes-Scantling with Klint Kubiak, the Seahawks’ new offensive coordinator who held the same position in New Orleans last season. Under Kubiak’s guidance, Valdes-Scantling thrived, especially in a game against the Atlanta Falcons where he recorded two touchdowns.
With the departure of star receivers Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, the Seahawks are in urgent need of receiving talent to support their new quarterback. Valdes-Scantling is expected to serve as a depth piece while the team looks to add a more established starter.
Valdes-Scantling’s career has seen him take on various roles with multiple teams. He was originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft and later played for the Kansas City Chiefs, contributing to their Super Bowl victories. His resume boasts 205 receptions for 3,566 yards and 20 touchdowns over his seven NFL seasons.
His recent stint with the Saints highlighted his potential, particularly as he adapted to being a go-to target amid injuries within the receiving lineup. Despite starting his career strong, Valdes-Scantling faced some setbacks, including cuts from both the Chiefs and Bills last year.
As he embarks on this new chapter with the Seahawks, Valdes-Scantling hopes to reclaim his status as a reliable receiver. With Kubiak’s familiarity with his skills, fans will be watching closely to see how he integrates into Seattle’s offense.
