Seahawks Interview Lions’ Hank Fraley for Offensive Coordinator Role
The Seattle Seahawks are set to interview Detroit Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley for their vacant offensive coordinator position, according to reports from NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero. The interview is scheduled for Friday, as the Seahawks look to fill the role after parting ways with Ryan Grubb earlier this week.
Fraley, 47, has been a key figure in Detroit’s offensive success since joining the team in 2018. Initially hired as an assistant offensive line coach, he was promoted to offensive line coach in 2020 and retained by head coach Dan Campbell in 2021. Under Fraley’s guidance, the Lions’ offensive line has been among the league’s best, developing All-Pro talents like Frank Ragnow and Penei Sewell. This season, Detroit led the NFL in points per game and ranked third in run blocking, according to Pro Football Focus.
In addition to Fraley, the Seahawks are also considering Chicago Bears interim coach Thomas Brown for the offensive coordinator role. Brown, 38, served as the Bears’ passing game coordinator before being promoted to offensive coordinator and later interim head coach following the midseason firings of Shane Waldron and Matt Eberflus. Chicago went 1-4 under Brown’s leadership. Prior to his time in Chicago, Brown spent the 2023 season as the Panthers’ offensive coordinator and worked with the Los Angeles Rams from 2020 to 2022.
The Lions, currently on a first-round playoff bye, are facing significant interest in their coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has five reported interviews lined up, while offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has four. Fraley’s potential departure would mark another loss for Detroit’s highly regarded coaching staff.
Seattle’s search for an offensive coordinator comes as the team aims to revitalize its offense following a disappointing 2024 season. The Seahawks finished with a 7-10 record, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
