Sean Murphy Bunting Cardinals Injury 2025

GLENDALE, Arizona (May 22, 2025) — Arizona Cardinals cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting will miss the entire 2025 NFL season after being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list.

The Cardinals confirmed this decision earlier today, which ends Murphy-Bunting’s season before it even started. The exact nature of his injury has not been disclosed.

Murphy-Bunting joined the Cardinals last year after signing a three-year, $25.5 million contract. His 2025 base salary of $7.6 million is now at risk, as teams are not obligated to pay players who suffer injuries outside of football.

During the 2024 season, Murphy-Bunting started all 15 games and recorded three interceptions, showcasing his vital role in Arizona’s defense. His absence leaves the team without a notable first-string cornerback as they look to improve their standing in the league.

Arizona finished mid-pack against the pass in the last two seasons under Head Coach Jonathan Gannon and Defensive Coordinator Nick Rallis. They have sought to bolster their secondary by drafting players like Will Johnson and Denzel Burke in the 2025 NFL Draft.

In addition to Murphy-Bunting’s situation, the Cardinals also waived a defensive lineman today. With $32 million in cap space, the team has several internal options to fill the cornerback position, but they may also consider external additions.

As the Cardinals prepare for the upcoming season without Murphy-Bunting, they are focused on strengthening their defense and making a strong push for the playoffs.
