Sec College Basketball Standings February 2025

COLUMBIA, S.C. — With only days remaining in the regular season, the competition for a top seed in the 2025 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tournament has heated up. As of February 28, both South Carolina and Texas are neck-and-neck at the top, both holding 13-1 records in SEC play.

In a pivotal week for Kentucky, which sees the Wildcats tied for No. 8 in the standings with an 8-7 record, every game matters. The Wildcats face tough matchups against Tennessee and South Carolina, teams that are currently forecasted to secure high seeds in the upcoming tournament. Kentucky’s recent performance included a disappointing 94-78 loss to No. 1 Auburn, further complicating their quest for postseason positioning.

Georgia, Texas, and Oklahoma, all sitting at 5-10 or worse in the SEC standings, are desperate for wins as they look to bolster their NCAA Tournament prospects. Georgia’s stunning upset of No. 3 Florida not only brought excitement to Athens but also rekindled hopes for a late-season surge. Texas, after faltering in overtime to Arkansas, has its own challenges as it heads into its final stretch of the season.

“We can’t afford to lose,” Kentucky Coach Mark Pope said following the team’s recent loss. “We need to reclaim our momentum and secure a better seed heading into the Tournament. Every game matters.”

Following the latest round of games, SEC standings revealed how competitive this season has been. As the bottom teams scramble for position, schools like Auburn and Alabama, which boast records of 14-1 and 12-3, respectively, are looking to secure their spots at the top. Auburn remains firmly at the No. 1 position, reaffirming their dominance this season.

As it stands, here are the current SEC standings:

Auburn (14-1), Alabama (12-3), Florida (11-4), Tennessee (10-5), Missouri (10-5), Texas A&M (9-6), Ole Miss (8-7), Kentucky (8-7), Mississippi State (7-8), Vanderbilt (7-8), Arkansas (6-9), Texas (5-10), Georgia (5-10), Oklahoma (4-11), LSU (3-12), South Carolina (1-14).

Moreover, Kentucky not only finds itself in a tight spot within the standings, but they also face the challenge of tiebreakers. Kentucky and Ole Miss are currently locked at 8-7 but Ole Miss holds the tiebreaker due to a previous victory in Oxford. Kentucky also lies just one game behind Texas A&M, enhancing the stakes for their upcoming matchups.

In the standings, projections show a potential path for Kentucky to ascend to as high as a No. 4 seed if they win out. The Wildcats’ remaining schedule includes critical contests against teams like Missouri, which could serve as a determining factor in NCAA Tournament projections.

To secure a favorable position, the Wildcats must achieve at least a 2-1 record down the stretch while hoping for Texas A&M’s missteps. “Winning is essential for us as we approach the tournament,” noted Wildcats’ player Otega Oweh. “Every game is a chance to show our potential.”

The SEC Tournament will commence on March 7, with teams vying vigorously to secure their spots in the NCAA Tournament, currently less than three weeks away. Kentucky’s next chance at redemption comes on March 2 against No. 6 South Carolina, a game that will take place in Columbia.

With the stakes rising and teams fighting for their tournament lives, the final weeks of the regular season promise to deliver intense competition and thrilling moments throughout the SEC.
