Ha Seong Kim Baseball Rehab Assignment

DURHAM, North Carolina — Ha-Seong Kim started a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham today, marking his first official on-field appearance with the Tampa Bay Rays organization. This stint is also unique, as it’s the first minor league game of Kim’s four-plus years in North American baseball. Previously, he did not play in the minors during his time with the San Diego Padres from 2021 to 2024.

Kim’s recent recovery journey began after he underwent shoulder surgery last October. The procedure cooled his free-agent market, allowing the Rays to secure him with a two-year, $29 million contract that includes an opt-out clause after the 2025 season.

According to reports, Kim is one of five injured Rays players slated to be activated from the injured list in the coming weeks. This influx of returning players could create a roster crunch for the team as they try to accommodate everyone. Current players may be optioned to the minors to clear space.

Additionally, Tampa Bay officials are expected to explore the trade market for any surplus players who might attract interest. The team is keen to balance its roster, especially while gearing up for the rest of the season.

As fans eagerly anticipate Kim’s return, the Rays organization faces critical decisions on how to configure their roster effectively.
