Sergio Perez Red Bull F1 Qatar Grand Prix

Sergio Perez‘s future with Red Bull Racing remains highly uncertain following a tumultuous weekend at the Qatar Grand Prix. Despite qualifying ninth, Perez’s race ended in disappointment when he spun out under the Safety Car on Lap 41, resulting in his fourth DNF of the season.

The incident occurred as Perez was warming up his tyres behind the Safety Car. He explained that a “massive over delivery from the engine” on cold tyres made the car uncontrollable, leading to the spin and subsequent loss of drive.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has indicated that the team will allow Perez to “come to his own conclusions” regarding his future with the team. Horner acknowledged Perez’s significant contributions to the team, including his role in Max Verstappen‘s World Championship in 2021 and the Constructors’ World Championships in 2022 and 2023. However, he also noted the difficulties Perez has faced this season, which have been particularly hard for both the driver and the team.

Perez’s position is under scrutiny, with Red Bull slipping to third in the championship standings due to his lack of points. The Mexican driver has insisted he will remain with Red Bull in 2025 as he is under contract, but Horner suggested that his position will be reviewed after the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Speculation about potential replacements, including Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson, has been rampant, but Horner refused to discuss these options, stating that the focus is on supporting Perez to the end of the season before making any decisions.
