Sergio Ramos Scores First Goal for Rayados in Thrilling Match

MONTERREY, Mexico – Sergio Ramos made a significant impact in his second match with Rayados, scoring his first goal in Liga MX during the team’s 4-2 comeback victory against Santos Laguna on March 2, 2025.
The Spanish defender netted the goal at the 57-minute mark, converting a cross from Sergio Canales to give Rayados a temporary 2-1 lead at Estadio BBVA, reigniting hope in the management of head coach Martín Demichelis.
Ramos, who played as a starter, was pivotal defensively throughout the match. He had a near miss earlier when he sent a shot just wide of Santos goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo. However, his persistence paid off with a powerful header that resonated well with the home crowd.
The goal was greeted with jubilant chants of “oe, oe, oe, Ramos, Ramos” from the enthusiastic fans, marking a celebratory moment for both the player and the club.
Before his goal, Rayados found themselves in a tight spot. Santos led 1-0 after Aldo López capitalized on a cross from Javier Güemez to score in the 22nd minute. The goal pressed Rayados to escalate their game to respond to the anxious home crowd.
Rayados struck back just before halftime when a creative backheel pass from Canales set up Gerardo Arteaga, allowing him to square the game 1-1 in stoppage time. The equalizer shifted the momentum going into the second half.
Ramos’ header lifted Rayados ahead, but Santos quickly retaliated, with Bruno Barticiotto leveling the score at 2-2 in the 64th minute. However, the home side responded once more as Canales found the net with a left-footed shot in the 71st minute, restoring their lead.
In the dying moments of the match, Arteaga capped off the night with a stunning volley after a cross from ‘Tecatito’ Corona, sealing the 4-2 victory.
Ramos’s journey in Liga MX, after a storied career in European football, saw him score his first goal following only 136 minutes played with the team. His early contribution has sparked optimism for Rayados as they climb the standings, now positioned ninth with 15 points.
“I am thrilled to help my team in such a way, and I hope to continue contributing,” Ramos said post-game. His goal is not only a personal milestone but a valuable boost for Rayados in the competitive Liga MX landscape.
