Sergio Ramos Rayados Monterrey Debut

MONTERREY, Mexico — Sergio Ramos is set to make his highly anticipated debut with Rayados de Monterrey this weekend during the eighth round of the 2025 Clausura, facing Atlético San Luis. The veteran defender, who joined the club less than a month ago, was originally thought to be on track for a March debut.

According to TUDN, Ramos will not only see playing time but will also start in the match at the Estadio BBVA. His inclusion in the starting lineup follows a productive week of training with the team, where he impressed coaches with his performance.

“We have seen a steady progression since his arrival. With his experience, we felt he was ready to play,” said Rayados head coach Martín Demichelis. “His physical fitness was not a concern; it was more about integrating him with the team.”

Rayados currently sits in a challenging tenth position in the league, with just nine points from their first seven games. The addition of Ramos, who last played for Sevilla in May 2024, is expected to bolster a defense that has already conceded 12 goals this season.

Samuel García, the Governor of Nuevo León, recently commented on the rivalry between Monterrey and local club Tigres UANL, stating that the addition of Ramos is not something they fear. “We don’t fear Ramos coming to Rayados. We are looking forward to competing,” he said.

In contrast, the struggling Atlético San Luis, currently at the bottom of the standings with three points, will be desperate for a victory. They hope to take advantage of what many see as a shaky start to the season for Rayados.

Ramos, 39, brings a wealth of experience and leadership to Rayados, a quality that coach Demichelis believes is crucial. “We need commitment from all players when it comes to both attacking and defending,” Demichelis added. “Sergio can enhance our quality, but he will not singlehandedly solve our defensive issues.”

The match kicks off at the Gigante de Acero, a venue known for its intense atmosphere, which may provide Ramos with the confidence needed for a successful start. With the excitement building around his debut, both fans and players are optimistic about the potential impact he could have on the team’s performance moving forward.

As the Liga MX season progresses, Rayados looks to climb the standings, and Ramos’s debut could be the catalyst they need to turn their fortunes around.
