Hailstorm Marietta Kennesaw Georgia

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Intense thunderstorms swept through northwest metro Atlanta on Thursday evening, depositing hail across Marietta and Kennesaw.

Members of the 11Alive Weather Impact Facebook group reported substantial hail accumulation, sharing photos and videos that captured the icy precipitation falling and blanketing the ground and grass.

According to local residents, hailstones varied in size, with some building into piles that caught the eye of curious onlookers. Heather Canton, a Marietta resident, shared images showing the extent of the hail coverage on Piedmont Road.

In addition to hail, the scattered storms extended over Cobb and Bartow counties, bringing pockets of heavy rain and bursts of lightning. While the storm activity on Thursday was impactful, forecasters warn of more severe weather on the horizon.

Currently, parts of metro Atlanta and Georgia are under a Level 1 marginal risk for severe weather. However, a more concerning forecast looms as meteorologists anticipate a weekend system that may lead to widespread severe weather across the southeastern U.S.

Specifically, areas in north Georgia and metro Atlanta face a Level 3 risk for severe weather from Saturday into Sunday. 11Alive’s Weather Impact Team has issued alerts for this time period, advising residents to prepare for possibly more intense conditions.
