Chicago Severe Storms Weather Forecast

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago area is bracing for severe storms beginning tonight and continuing through Wednesday evening, posing significant risks of tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail.

The Storm Prediction Center has categorized the entire Chicagoland area under a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for isolated severe storms tonight, with the main concerns being severe storms producing hail and strong wind gusts. Expect storm activity to commence after 1 a.m., lasting until dawn on Wednesday.

“Wednesday is looking particularly dangerous,” said Emily Wahls, a CBS Chicago meteorologist. “We are especially concerned about the period between noon and 8 p.m., when tornadoes could be possible.”

As the day progresses, temperatures are forecasted to reach the upper 60s to low 70s. However, the arrival of a cold front will elevate the threat of severe storms during the afternoon. This includes the risk of damaging winds, hail, and the potential for tornado formation.

“The threats expected tomorrow afternoon are concerning,” Wahls added. “Residents should stay informed and be prepared for any weather alerts.”

After Wednesday, temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with highs in the upper 50s on Thursday, under partly cloudy skies. Friday is forecasted to be cool as well, with temperatures in the lower 50s and increasing cloud cover.

Rain may return to the area late Friday night into the weekend, with scattered showers anticipated both Saturday and Sunday. Highs during that period will range from the upper 40s to low 50s.

As for Tuesday, residents can expect a chilly day with fog and rain diminishing by daybreak, followed by partly cloudy skies. Highs for Tuesday are expected to remain in the lower 40s.

“Tuesday night brings a chance of stronger storms, and we anticipate multiple rounds of rain and storms on Wednesday,” Wahls stated.

A weather alert has been posted as a precaution, and residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and tuned in to local weather updates.
