Thunderstorms Baltimore Sunday Evening Forecast

BALTIMORE, Md. — Meteorologists are warning residents of Baltimore to prepare for severe thunderstorms expected Sunday evening as a cold front hits the area. Heavy rain, lightning, and potentially damaging winds are anticipated, with the heaviest rainfall beginning in the afternoon.

Dalencia Jenkins, a meteorologist at WBAL-TV, noted that temperatures could reach the 70s during the day before sharply dropping into the mid-50s on Monday. “The storms will start as scattered showers in the afternoon but are forecasted to intensify as the cold front moves through,” Jenkins said.

These thunderstorms are expected to roll in after 5 p.m., with the most severe weather likely occurring between 6 p.m. and midnight. Areas across Baltimore could experience significant storm activity as the night progresses, including a slight chance of tornado activity.

Ava Marie, another meteorologist, explained the potential impacts of the storms. “Our main concerns are heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and strong winds that could lead to downed power lines and tree limbs,” she said. “Although the chances of a tornado are low (around 2%), residents should remain vigilant and have a safety plan in place.”

The Baltimore Gas and Electric Company advises homeowners to report outages immediately through multiple platforms: their website, mobile app, text messaging, or by phone call. “Please do not approach any downed power lines, even if they appear inactive, and notify us at 877-778-2222,” a spokesperson stated.

In addition to storm safety, residents are encouraged to share any weather-related photos and videos on social media and through local news platforms. As Sunday approaches, it remains essential to stay informed of updates regarding the unfolding weather situation.

As the storm system transitions from evening showers to thunderstorms, authorities are urging the public to monitor ongoing announcements regarding severe weather. Rain projections could range from half an inch to potentially over one inch once storms fully develop. The worst of the storms is expected to impact the region through the night, clearing by Monday morning.
