Severe Thunderstorm Maryland March 2025

BALTIMORE, Maryland — A significant weather system is set to impact Maryland on Wednesday, bringing heavy rainfall and the risk of strong to severe thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a level 2 alert out of 5 for severe weather across the state.

As the storms move in during the afternoon, residents can expect damaging winds, hail, and the possibility of an isolated tornado. Meteorologists are monitoring the situation closely, with predictions indicating the potential for severe weather through the late afternoon. High temperatures are expected to reach the low 60s.

“Thunderstorms are likely to develop around midday and may intensify as they move through the region,” said meteorologist Lisa Kane. “We’re advising residents to stay informed and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.”

Following the weather-maker, temperatures will cool to the low 50s, returning to average for the season. Despite the drop, the forecast indicates mild conditions will persist for the remainder of the week, offering a brief respite before a colder front arrives on Sunday.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions as severe weather can occur suddenly, and those living in areas prone to flooding should be particularly cautious. With humidity levels around 88 percent and winds gusting at 17 mph, conditions are ripe for severe storm formation.

Looking ahead, forecasters suggest a significant warm-up next week, where temperatures could soar into the 70s for the first time this season. This drastic change offers a contrast to the cooler air that will settle in following Wednesday’s storm system.
