Severe Thunderstorms Threaten Indiana This Weekend

INDIANA, USA — Indiana residents should prepare for a weekend of severe weather, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected to begin as early as tonight. A warm front moving across the Plains is set to reach the state after midnight, bringing with it the potential for severe hail and wind storms originating from Illinois.
According to meteorologists, light rain showers are anticipated today, particularly in southwestern Indiana. Up to 0.15 inches of rain may fall by sunset, with most areas remaining dry this morning. Conditions are expected to worsen overnight as the risk for thunderstorms increases.
“The strongest storms will initially be west of the Indiana-Illinois state line,” said a WTHR meteorologist. “As they cross into Indiana, they are expected to be elevated and cooler, but still pose threats of heavy rain and downpours.”
Forecasts indicate that tonight could see an additional 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rain as storms move across the state. Areas closer to the front will likely experience the most intense precipitation, while northern and eastern Indiana may remain less affected.
As Friday progresses, residents can expect rain chances to taper off, but the weather will still be marked by cloudy skies and occasional sun breaks. Highs are projected to reach the mid-70s.
This rainy pattern will continue through the weekend, with scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms rolling in on Saturday. However, Sunday is predicted to be the most severe day, with estimates of 1-2 inches of rainfall and numerous thunderstorms.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued an early alert for severe storms expected in much of the Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys on Sunday, advising residents to stay vigilant for changing weather conditions.
“It’s important for everyone to stay aware of the weather forecasts this weekend,” the meteorologist warned. “While it may not rain constantly, the threat for showers and thunderstorms will be present throughout.”
