Severe Storm Warning Weather Forecast

MACON, Ga. — A Weather Impact Alert Day has been issued for central Georgia ahead of a frontal system expected to bring damaging winds and potential flash flooding on Sunday evening through early Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service warns that the system will begin affecting the area around 5 p.m. on Sunday, with the possibility of strong storms and widespread rainfall continuing through Monday. Forecasts indicate that the front will be a slow mover, which may lead to prolonged periods of inclement weather.

The Storm Prediction Center has classified the risk of severe weather as Level 2 out of 5 for most northwestern counties and Level 1 for other areas throughout central Georgia. Although this suggests a possible weakening of the system, the threat for severe weather remains significant.

The primary risks identified include damaging wind gusts, localized flash flooding due to heavy rainfall, and a slight chance of isolated tornadoes. “We cannot rule out the possibility of a brief spin-up tornado, but conditions do not currently indicate a high likelihood,” a meteorologist stated.

To prepare for the impending storms, residents are encouraged to stay informed through weather alerts available on the 13WMAZ app and the National Weather Service. The weather team at 13WMAZ will provide extended forecasts on their streaming channel, 13WMAZ+.

Officials advise against unnecessary travel during the expected storms, especially in areas experiencing heavy rain. Residents should also secure any outdoor decorations that might be affected by high winds.

In preparation for potential disruptions, viewers are encouraged to follow updates via the 13WMAZ app for on-demand content related to weather and local news.

As the system moves through, the public is advised to regularly check for updates and alerts about storm developments. The recent history of severe storms has underscored the importance of vigilance when it comes to weather preparedness.

The situation is evolving, and officials remind everyone to prioritize safety during these stormy conditions.
