Severe Weather Alerts Tennessee April 2025

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — As severe weather and flash flooding loom, officials have declared multiple First Alert Weather Days across Middle Tennessee, starting Wednesday afternoon through Saturday.

The National Weather Service warns residents to stay informed as heavy rain can lead to ponding, poor visibility, and flooding in poorly drained areas. “It’s critical that people prepare and stay alert for rapidly changing conditions,” said meteorologist John Smith. “Having multiple sources for weather alerts is essential, especially during nighttime storms.”

With the forecast predicting up to three inches of rain over the next few days, emergency management officials are urging residents to avoid travel if possible. Roads are expected to deteriorate, increasing the risk of accidents and disruptions. Motorists should be particularly cautious on rural routes and areas prone to flooding.

“Severe weather can pop up quickly, and we want everyone to be ready,” said Nashville Emergency Management Director Lisa Taylor. “If you have to go out, make sure to check road conditions and be aware of changing weather.”

The expected weather disturbances have prompted several school closures and business delays, with announcements likely to continue through the week. Parents are advised to check local school district websites for updates.

For those needing shelter, various storm shelters have been opened across the region. Notable locations include:

Residents can visit the Middle Tennessee Emergency Management website for a complete list of shelters and report damage or request assistance during the storm.

The severe weather comes ahead of a warm snap, with temperatures expected to climb into the mid-70s before the cold front arrives late Friday into Saturday. Storm systems may include large hail and damaging winds.

<p“Be aware that these storms could escalate quickly,” added Taylor. “Take precautions to protect yourself and your family.”

Forecasts indicate that conditions will begin to stabilize by early next week, but for now, residents are urged to stay informed and prepare for potential power outages or disruptions.

For updates on the situation, officials recommend downloading weather apps that provide localized alerts and updates on conditions as they evolve.
