Severe Weather Forces Houston-Utah Basketball Game Postponement
HOUSTON — Severe weather forecasts have forced the postponement of No. 7 Houston‘s men’s basketball game against Utah, originally scheduled for Tuesday night. The game has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. CST Wednesday due to expected hazardous conditions in the Houston area.
The Cougars, riding a 10-game winning streak, will now face Utah a day later than planned. The postponement also affected the Houston women’s basketball team, whose game against Texas Tech was moved up to 1 p.m. Wednesday to accommodate the doubleheader.
The National Weather Service predicts 3-5 inches of snow across much of the Houston metropolitan area, prompting both William P. Hobby Airport and George Bush Intercontinental Airport to suspend flight operations on Tuesday. “We’re prioritizing the safety of our players, staff, and fans,” said a Houston athletics spokesperson. “The weather conditions are expected to be severe, and we want to avoid any unnecessary risks.”
Houston, currently ranked No. 7 in the nation, has been a dominant force this season, with their winning streak positioning them as a top contender in college basketball. Utah, meanwhile, is looking to bounce back after a recent loss. The rescheduled game will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike.
Local authorities have urged residents to stay off the roads during the storm, which is expected to bring not only snow but also icy conditions. “This is a rare weather event for Houston,” said a National Weather Service representative. “We advise everyone to take precautions and avoid travel if possible.”
