Sevilla And Athletic Bilbao Secure Quarterfinal Spots In Copa Del Rey

Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao demonstrated their prowess in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday, as both teams secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the prestigious Spanish tournament.

Sevilla, known for its struggles in the Spanish league, left its woes behind as it defeated Getafe 3-1. This victory propelled Sevilla to the quarterfinals for the second consecutive year. Managed by Quique Sánchez Flores, the team will be aiming to make it to the last-four stage for the first time since 2021. Despite their recent league slump, Sevilla has been successful in the Copa, winning its last four matches in the tournament. The team’s 3-1 win over Getafe showcased the attacking prowess of Sergio Ramos, who scored the opening goal and Isaac Romero, who netted twice to secure the victory.

Athletic Bilbao, on the other hand, continued their strong run in the Copa, defeating Alaves 2-0. This victory marked the fifth straight season that Athletic Bilbao has reached the quarterfinals. With goals from Asier Villalibre in the 28th and 60th minutes, Athletic Bilbao showcased their attacking prowess and maintained their hopes of going one step further in the tournament. The team has been semifinalists in the past two editions and was the runner-up in both 2020 and 2021.

In other Copa del Rey matches on Tuesday, second-division club Tenerife hosted Mallorca, while Wednesday’s fixtures featured first-division clubs Girona hosting Rayo Vallecano, Real Sociedad visiting Osasuna, and Valencia welcoming Celta Vigo. The defending champions, Real Madrid, will face their fierce rivals Atletico Madrid on Thursday, and Barcelona will take on third-division club Unionistas.
