Shadman Islam Bolsters Bangladesh with Century Against Zimbabwe

Chattogram, BangladeshShadman Islam scored his second Test century, helping Bangladesh gain a 64-run lead over Zimbabwe on the second day of their Test match at the Bir Shreshtho Flight Lt Matiur Rahman Stadium. With three wickets remaining, Bangladesh finished the day at 291 for 7.

After Zimbabwe was dismissed for 227, Bangladesh’s openers, Anamul Haque and Shadman Islam, built a strong partnership, posting 118 runs for the first wicket. Anamul, playing for the first time in over two years, contributed 39 runs before he was trapped lbw by Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani.

Shadman, showcasing a mix of aggression and precision, scored 120 runs off 181 balls. His innings included seven boundaries and a six, displaying confidence throughout his knock. “I feel [Anamul] was comfortable in his stay. He didn’t struggle and provided a good start,” Shadman noted after the day’s play.

Following Anamul’s dismissal, Shadman added another 76 runs with Mominul Haque for the second wicket. Mominul struck 33 runs before he was caught at deep midwicket. Zimbabwe’s Vincent Masekesa, on debut, impressed with his bowling, claiming three wickets and keeping the pressure on the Bangladeshi batsmen.

At stumps, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam were at the crease with 16 and 5 runs, respectively. “We’ve managed to put ourselves in a good position, and we hope to build on it tomorrow,” Shadman added, emphasizing the need for further partnerships.

Bangladesh is looking to redeem themselves after losing the first Test match in Sylhet. With Shadman’s return to form, they appear more formidable as they aim to square the series.
