Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Unveils New Signature Shoe: SHAI 001

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 13, 2025 — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the All-Star point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, officially unveiled his first signature shoe, the SHAI 001, during a launch event Thursday evening. The shoe represents a significant milestone in Gilgeous-Alexander’s career and Converse‘s return to the basketball sneaker market.

The SHAI 001 is set to launch in Fall 2025, marking the first signature sneaker from Converse in 15 years. Gilgeous-Alexander’s vision for the shoe was realized through an extensive collaboration with the brand, which he joined as a creative director last September. “I poured my heart and soul into the SHAI 001, and I’m proud to share it with the world,” Gilgeous-Alexander stated. “From performance to design, every aspect of this shoe reflects my passion for the game and my commitment to pushing the boundaries.”

During the design process, Gilgeous-Alexander was deeply involved, contributing his hand-drawn sketches that ultimately guided the shoe’s construction. The SHAI 001 features a layered, zippered upper and incorporates Nike’s Zoom Air cushioning technology for enhanced comfort. The shoe’s forefoot is equipped with a responsive airbag, allowing for better performance on the court.

The first colorway of the SHAI 001, dubbed “Butter,” showcases a vibrant yellow design. Senior Director of Sports Style for Converse, Brodrick Foster, emphasized Gilgeous-Alexander’s unique style as integral to the shoe’s development. “What’s great about Shai is he’s unorthodox, on and off the court,” Foster said. “His game is just something we’ve never seen before in the NBA. But also, his style.”

Gilgeous-Alexander, who is known for his dynamic playstyle, specifically highlighted the shoe’s traction and fit. “The traction is, in my opinion — an A-plus,” he remarked, referring to the radial traction pattern designed to support his agile movements.

As Converse celebrates over a century of basketball history, the introduction of the SHAI 001 reflects a modern approach to performance footwear while honoring the brand’s legacy. “We are confident the SHAI 001 will help inspire and inform the next wave of basketball footwear,” said Jared Carver, CEO and President of Converse.

The sneaker will make its on-court debut when Gilgeous-Alexander participates as a Western Conference starter in the upcoming All-Star Game.
