Maria Sharapova Boxing Training

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Maria Sharapova, the former tennis star known for her powerful forehand and multiple Grand Slam titles, has surprised fans with a newfound passion for boxing. After retiring from professional tennis five years ago, Sharapova has embraced this high-energy sport and continues to stay active.

Sharapova recently shared her boxing journey with fans, detailing how the activity has transformed her approach to fitness. “Boxing gives me an incredible energy boost, both physically and mentally,” she explained. The 36-year-old athlete has admitted that she sometimes visualizes opponents in the ring, humorously noting, “I imagine I’m hitting people I don’t particularly like, which helps me release negativity.”

Despite entering boxing purely for enjoyment and health benefits, Sharapova has found unexpected nostalgia in her training. “My cardio sessions often remind me of my old forehand,” she said. “But now, I’m not doing it for competition—it’s just for my own well-being.”

Transitioning out of a professional sports career often comes with challenges. Many athletes struggle with the adjustment to a less active lifestyle, leading to potential weight gain and mental health issues. However, Sharapova’s choice to pursue boxing showcases an active lifestyle that can help mitigate these risks. “I didn’t just quit cold turkey; I found a way to stay engaged physically,” she noted.

Sharapova’s boxing journey began in 2017. Though she took a break from the sport for three years, she has recently reintegrated it into her fitness routine. “It’s something I love and keep coming back to,” she said, emphasizing that the sport is fulfilling beyond physical fitness.

In a playful mention, Sharapova referenced potential boxing challenges, jokingly wishing that Jake Paul doesn’t see her training and decide to call her out in a match. “That would be unexpected!” she laughed.
