The Sharks put in a dominant and relentless performance to clinch their first major title by overpowering Gloucester with a 36-22 victory in the EPCR Challenge Cup final. Led by coach John Plumtree, the South African outfit showcased their physical prowess with key players stepping up at a crucial moment.

Ox Nche was a standout figure, commanding the scrum and making impactful carries, while Vincent Koch and Siya Masuku played pivotal roles in the Sharks’ success. Masuku’s accurate kicking and Phepsi Buthelezi’s try in the first half set the tone for the game, with Gloucester struggling to counter the Sharks’ strength.

Gloucester initially threatened the Sharks’ try line in the opening minutes, with Chris Harris coming close to scoring, but the South African side weathered the storm and took control of the match. Masuku’s penalty and Buthelezi’s try gave the Sharks an early lead that they built on through dominant scrummaging and effective use of penalties.

Despite Gloucester’s efforts to rally, the Sharks continued their physical dominance into the second half, with Aphelele Fassi and Makazole Mapimpi crossing the try line to extend their lead. Masuku’s conversions and additional penalties kept the scoreboard ticking in favor of the Sharks, while Gloucester found it challenging to contain their opponents.

Gloucester managed to score tries through Albert Tuisue, Santiago Socino, and Freddie Clarke, showing resilience in the face of the Sharks’ onslaught. However, it was the South African side that ultimately celebrated a well-deserved victory in the EPCR Challenge Cup final, marking a significant triumph for the team.

The lineup featured notable players such as Santi Carreras, Jonny May, Chris Harris, Seb Atkinson, Ollie Thorley, Adam Hastings, Lewis Ludlow, Ruan Ackermann, Arthur Clark, Freddie Clarke, Fraser Balmain, Jamal Ford-Robinson, and a strong bench including Fez Mbatha, Ntuthuko Mchunu, Hanro Jacobs, and more.

Refereed by Mathieu Raynal and assisted by Andrew Brace, Pierre Brousset, and TMO Eric Gauzins, the match showcased the Sharks’ prowess and determination, sealing their victory in the prestigious EPCR Challenge Cup.
