NEW YORK, NY — Uche Ojeh, the husband of TODAY co-host Sheinelle Jones, has died at the age of 45 after a battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The announcement was made on May 23 during the NBC morning show’s broadcast, with Jones’ co-host Savannah Guthrie expressing profound sadness for Jones and their three children.

“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children,” Guthrie said tearfully on air. “Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.”

Ojeh, full name Uchechukwuka Adenola Ojeh, was remembered for his devotion to family, friends, and his faith. Jones and Ojeh met in the late 1990s at Northwestern University. They married in September 2007 in Jones’ hometown of Philadelphia.

They welcomed their son Kayin in 2009, followed by twins Uche and Clara in 2012. Jones described their relationship as one filled with love and support, often celebrating each other’s milestones. She was absent from the TODAY show since December 2024, dealing with a family health matter, which was revealed to be related to Ojeh’s illness.

“He loved those kids more than anything else in this world and was just so proud,” said Craig Melvin, co-host of TODAY, recalling Ojeh’s active role in his children’s lives, including attending soccer games and school performances.

Jones remarked on Ojeh’s importance in her life and their family dynamic during a 2019 interview, highlighting how they aimed to instill a strong sense of cultural identity in their children. Ojeh was proud of his Nigerian heritage, ensuring their children embraced both their Nigerian roots and American upbringing.

Friends and colleagues of Jones shared their condolences and reflections on Ojeh’s bright spirit, illustrating the impact he had on those around him.

Uche Ojeh’s life was a blend of devotion to his family, passion for sports, and love for music showcased through his participation in the church choir. The memorial for Ojeh reflects the love shared not just within the family, but also with friends, colleagues, and fans who admired his character and spirit.
