Shivam Dube’s Blistering Performance Attracts Support for T20 World Cup Selection
Shivam Dube‘s recent outstanding performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has sparked discussions and debates regarding his selection for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. The Chennai Super Kings player’s explosive batting display has caught the attention of cricket legends, urging the BCCI selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, to consider him for the prestigious tournament.
In a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Dube exhibited his prowess by smashing two boundaries and four sixes in a quick-fire knock of 45 runs off just 24 balls, showcasing a remarkable strike rate of 187.50. His consistent form in the IPL, where he has amassed 148 runs in four innings at a strike rate of 160.87, has impressed cricket stalwarts like Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag.
Yuvraj Singh, recognizing Dube’s talent, described him as a potential game-changer and advocated for his inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad. Sehwag echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing Dube’s ability to handle pressure situations, thereby nudging the selectors to make a bold decision in his favor over other middle-order options such as Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant.
Offering his insights, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull highlighted Dube’s suitability for slower tracks like the ones expected in the Caribbean, the host country for the T20 World Cup. Doull also emphasized the importance of Dube refining his bowling skills to become a more versatile all-rounder. Michael Vaughan, another cricket expert, urged Agarkar to embrace bold selections and introduce fresh faces in the squad.
As the anticipation builds for the official squad announcement, all eyes are on Agarkar and the selection panel to see if they heed the calls to include Shivam Dube in the Indian team for the ICC T20 World Cup, set to commence in June.
