Sibusiso Vilakazi Applauds Bafana Bafana's Hunger For Victory

Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Sibusiso Vilakazi has praised the current national team squad for their hunger and desire to win. Under the guidance of Belgian coach Broos, the team’s performance has improved significantly, leading to a resurgence in support from South African football fans. Since May 2021, the team has won nine out of their 17 matches in various competitions, drawing six and suffering two defeats. Additionally, they have successfully qualified for the 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast, a feat they missed in the previous edition held in Cameroon.

Vilakazi, who earned 32 caps and contributed to seven goals during his time with Bafana Bafana, highlights the positive changes he sees in the team. He mentions their appetite for victory, which is evident in their style of play and the way they assert themselves on the field. The midfield engine of the team stands out, driven by a strong desire to achieve success.

In a social media post, Vilakazi states, ‘The current Bafana Bafana team has an appetite; you can see from the way that they play. And the way they impose themselves in the field of play. The courage that they have, they play with and the confidence that they play with. The results show that there is appetite. There is an appetite to change, it’s been there, and it’s the nature of us as a country to win.’

Having represented South Africa in the 2015 and 2019 AFCON tournaments hosted in Equatorial Guinea and Egypt, respectively, Vilakazi understands the importance of a motivated and hungry team.
