Sienna Betts Grandview Basketball Championship Victory

DENVER, Colo. — Sienna Betts delivered a standout performance, leading Grandview High School to its third consecutive basketball championship on Saturday. The 6-foot-4 forward scored 21 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, cementing her status as one of the country’s best players.

Betts, who earned the title of Ms. Colorado Basketball, faced formidable defenses throughout the season but repeatedly proved too difficult to contain. “You think you’ve got actions and defenses ready for her, but she’s just too much of a force,” Legend coach Darren Pitzner remarked after the game. Despite attempts at elaborate defensive strategies, Betts consistently found ways to excel on the court.

This championship matchup marked a quick turnaround for Pitzner, who had only 48 hours to prepare his team after they reached the title game by defeating Riverdale Ridge. In previous encounters with Grandview, Legend had managed to keep the game close, nearly defeating the Wolves earlier in the season. However, in the championship game, Betts quickly asserted her dominance.

Throughout the season, Betts showcased an impressive ability to perform under pressure, averaging a double-double with 23 points, 16.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 3.4 blocks, and 2.3 steals per game. Her resilience in facing multiple defenders was noteworthy. “I’ve adjusted my game and it’s not even a big deal to me anymore,” Betts said. “But probably the craziest thing I’ve experienced is a triple-team or quadruple team… But we prepared for that.”

Significantly, Betts’s commitment to UCLA has fueled her motivation this season. “My mindset going into the playoffs was that I refused to be in that situation and feel the way I did last year,” she stated, referring to a disappointing loss in the Class 6A Sweet 16 the previous year.

With her illustrious career at Grandview concluded, Betts finished with 2,022 points—making her 11th all-time among all players—and a state-record 1,508 rebounds. Coach Josh Ulitzky credited her versatility and growth over the years. “Every time she’s won a title, she’s been with a completely different group,” Ulitzky said, highlighting how Betts evolved from a supporting player to a leading star.

As Betts gears up for her collegiate career with UCLA, her sister Lauren, a prominent player for the Bruins, is set to return for her final season. Sienna expressed her excitement about playing alongside her sister, stating, “I think I’m more prepared this time, and way more confident in my ability.” The Bruins are set to compete against LSU in the Elite Eight.
