Silva vs. Woodley Set for Paul-Joshua Fight on December 19
Miami, FL — Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley will face off in a six-round professional boxing match on December 19, as part of the highly anticipated undercard for Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua at the Kaseya Center. The event will stream live on Netflix.
The fight announcement, made by Most Valuable Promotions on November 21, comes after Chris Weidman withdrew due to injury. Silva, 50, returns to the ring after competing against Paul in 2022, bringing with him a pro boxing record of 3-2, including victories over Julio César Chávez Jr. and Tito Ortiz.
Woodley, 43, is seeking his first career win in professional boxing. His previous two matches were against Paul, both resulting in losses—one by split decision and the other by knockout. “Rising to occasions like this are the moments where legends are born,” Woodley stated in a press release.
“I believe that change always happens for a reason,” Silva said, emphasizing his commitment to respect his opponents in the boxing world. The bout carries significance for both fighters, who have made their marks in mixed martial arts before now stepping into boxing.
Besides the Silva-Woodley matchup, the undercard features notable fights, including a title defense by Cherneka “Sugar Neekz” Johnson, the first four-belt undisputed champion from Australia. Other bouts include a WBC strawweight title fight and the debut of Brazilian Olympian Keno Marley.
Nakisa Bidarian, CEO of Most Valuable Promotions, called the event an iconic matchup that adds to the significance of Paul vs. Joshua, dubbing it one of the most thrilling combat sports events yet.
