Sir K Celebrates His 60th Birthday

A few days ago, someone asked me about the top five mentors in my life. Without any thought, I named Sir K as one of them. One thing all my mentors have in common is their incredible work ethic. They focus on hard work and dedication rather than privileges or connections.

Sir K’s own journey from Shomolu to the boardroom is inspiring, and I’ve learned so much from him. His role as an executive director at the Sahara Group has really made a mark in both fossil and renewable energy fields here in Nigeria. He’s involved in various companies, shaping the energy landscape for millions of homes and businesses.

Beyond his business acumen, Sir K is passionate about sharing knowledge. He often shares his insights on energy issues with industry leaders and has helped many African governments tackle energy challenges with innovative solutions. His work has led to creating jobs for around 1,000 engineers across his companies.

As our board chair, he was always present, punctual, and genuinely interested in guiding us through challenges. Whenever I faced tough decisions, I turned to him for advice, and he always shed light on my path.

When it came time to celebrate his 60th birthday, Sir K made it clear he wanted a simple gathering with close friends and family. This was a refreshing contrast to the usual grand celebrations we see here. He said, “I just want to enjoy a fun night and thank God with the ones I love.”

Sir K has a unique ability to spot potential and nurture it. Many times, I’ve joined him at dinner with young entrepreneurs and creatives. At his birthday, a performance by a young theatre group from his church took center stage because he wanted to give them a chance to shine, and they did not disappoint!

In another instance, he ensured I was acknowledged equally at an event where he wanted me to meet an important president, even standing aside to wait for arrangements to be made for me. This isn’t just a show of character; it’s the kind of respect that has earned him friendships with prominent leaders.

Even though Sir K prefers to keep his philanthropic works quiet, I believe it’s worth mentioning. He supports various community initiatives, focusing on areas like education and healthcare. His impact is felt by many who have benefited from his charity.

Sir K is also a caring father and a devoted husband. His dedication to his family and faith matches his drive for business success. He often reminds us to prioritize God in everything we do, emphasizing the importance of prayer.

Today, we celebrate Sir Kola Adesina not just as a successful businessman but as a leader, mentor, and friend. Happy birthday to a truly remarkable person!
