Sixers Ride Gordon’s Hot Streak to Fourth Straight Win
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The Philadelphia 76ers extended their winning streak to four games with a 117-104 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, fueled by a resurgent Eric Gordon and another standout performance from Tyrese Maxey.
Gordon, who turned 36 on Christmas Day, has been a revelation in January after a slow start to the season. The veteran sharpshooter entered Wednesday’s game shooting a remarkable 49.3% from three-point range this month, lifting his season average above 40%. His contributions have been pivotal as the Sixers claw their way into contention for a Play-In Tournament spot in the Eastern Conference.
“I think that he’s getting really good shots,” Sixers head coach Nick Nurse said. “Obviously, he’s making a lot more of them. I think maybe our guys are noticing a few other ways to use him… He’s a really good shooter and just was not shooting it well. And now he is.”
Gordon’s impact extends beyond his shooting. He has leveraged his reputation as a marksman to create driving opportunities and has shown improved passing and defensive versatility. Despite standing just 6-foot-3, Gordon has held his own against bigger wings, including LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan in recent games.
Meanwhile, Tyrese Maxey continues to shine, reigniting his All-Star campaign with a string of stellar performances. Maxey, who has openly discussed rediscovering his joy for the game after a tumultuous start to the season, has been a driving force for the Sixers. His defensive improvements and scoring efficiency have been key to the team’s recent success.
Kyle Lowry and Reggie Jackson also provided valuable contributions off the bench, while rookie Justin Edwards showcased his basketball IQ with smart plays on both ends of the floor. However, rookie center Adem Bona‘s foul trouble remains a concern, limiting his ability to make a consistent impact.
The Sixers will look to continue their momentum when they host the Denver Nuggets on Friday, aiming to avenge a recent loss in Denver.
