Skylar Diggins Leads Storm to Victory Over Mercury

SEATTLE, WA — Seattle Storm guard Skylar Diggins scored a season-high 26 points in a thrilling 89-77 victory against her former team, the Phoenix Mercury, on Saturday night. This win marked a significant milestone for the Storm, pushing their season record above .500.
Diggins had an outstanding performance, contributing three rebounds, seven assists, and two steals while making four three-pointers. She showcased her talent by scoring 22 of her points in the second half, taking control of the game.
“It’s about time,” Diggins said after the game, expressing her desire to bounce back from a disappointing previous homestand. “I wanted to come out and be aggressive.” Having played three seasons with the Mercury from 2020 to 2022, this game was particularly meaningful for her.
Storm coach Noelle Quinn commended Diggins for her resilience and ability to perform under pressure. “We saw an elite player staying in the moment and doing what we know she can do,” Quinn stated. She noted Diggins’ determination despite a challenging start, where she went 1-for-8 in the early phases of the game.
Diggins wasn’t the only player to shine in this match. Nneka Ogwumike made WNBA history by recording her 628th steal, surpassing Angel McCoughtry. Ogwumike finished with 13 points, six assists, and six rebounds. Ezi Magbegor also achieved a personal milestone by blocking her 273rd shot, moving her into second for career blocks in Storm history.
With this win, the Storm improved their record to 5-4, giving them solid positioning in the Western Conference. Their next challenge comes against the undefeated Minnesota Lynx on Wednesday night.
