Socceroos Turn To Bruno Fornaroli To Solve Asian Cup Goal Drought

Veteran striker Bruno Fornaroli has been named in the starting lineup for the Socceroos as they face off against Indonesia in the round-of-16 Asian Cup clash. The Australian team has been struggling to score goals in the tournament, with only four goals in three games. Fornaroli’s inclusion is aimed at providing a boost to their attacking prowess, with his clever movements and attacking prowess.

This will be Fornaroli’s second start for the Socceroos, having previously led the line in a World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia. The team hopes that his experience and prowess in front of goal will help break down Indonesia’s deep-lying defense early in the game.

Apart from Fornaroli, Gethin Jones will also be coming in as a replacement for Nathaniel Atkinson at right-back. The rest of the lineup remains unchanged from the previous match against Uzbekistan, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Craig Goodwin and Mitch Duke, who were previously sidelined with knee and hamstring concerns, respectively, have returned to the squad and will be available from the bench. However, Lewis Miller and Thomas Deng will not be able to attend the match due to illness. Patrick Yazbek is the only player not selected in the 23-man match-day squad.

The winner of this match will advance to the quarter-finals, where they will face either South Korea or Saudi Arabia. The match is set to kick off at 10.30pm Sunday AEDT at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

Overall, the Socceroos are looking to overcome their goal-scoring woes in the tournament and secure their spot in the next round. With Fornaroli leading the line and the team’s determination, they hope to find success against Indonesia and progress further in the Asian Cup.
