The competition was fierce, with British gymnast Bryony Page taking the gold with a score of 56.480, while the Russian athlete competing as a neutral, Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya, snagged the silver with a score of 56.060.

The stakes grew even higher for Méthot as the final competitor, Chinese gymnast Hu Yicheng, unfortunately fell during her routine, which sealed Méthot’s spot on the podium. Earlier, Méthot had just scraped into the final by qualifying in 8th place.

After the competition, Méthot couldn’t hold back her excitement, saying, “It was really great to perform well when it mattered most.” This bronze marks a significant achievement as she was the first Quebecer to compete in trampoline at the Olympics.

As she prepares to celebrate her 26th birthday, Méthot reflected on her journey, stating, “I will treat myself to some nice vacation time. The last few years have been really tough mentally and physically.”

n

Her road to Paris wasn’t easy, as she faced injuries that almost kept her from qualifying for the Tokyo Games. However, she secured her spot at the Canadian Championships, finishing 5th in the individual event this year.

The sport of trampoline, known for its breathtaking flips and jumps reaching heights of up to 8 meters, has historically been a strong event for Canada, contributing seven Olympic medals since 2000.

Méthot’s medal is particularly noteworthy as it’s the first Olympic medal for Canada in trampoline since Rosie MacLennan won gold in Rio in 2016. The excitement is electric, and fans are eager to see what the future holds for this talented athlete.
