South Africa Cricket Team Victory In India

Kolkata, IndiaSouth Africa secured their first Test victory in India since 2010 on Sunday, defeating the hosts by 30 runs in a tightly contested match. The Proteas, current holders of the World Test Championship, faced a deficit of 30 runs at the end of the first innings. However, they managed to rebuild and bowl out India for 93, needing just 124 runs to win.

The standout performance came from veteran spinner Simon Harmer, who took four wickets in each innings for total match figures of 8 for 51. India had shown signs of resistance but fell apart quickly in their second innings. Washington Sundar, who scored 31 runs, was the only other Indian to offer significant resistance.

India’s captain, Shubman Gill, was sidelined after sustaining a neck injury, leaving the team a batter short. Gill remains in the hospital under observation, with India announcing he would not return to play.

On day three, South Africa resumed at 93 for 7 in their second innings, leading by 63 runs. Captain Temba Bavuma played a critical role, remaining unbeaten on 55 from 136 balls, guiding the tail to a respectable total of 153 all out.

South Africa’s left-arm seamer Marco Jansen made early inroads by dismissing openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, putting India in a precarious position at 1 for 2. The middle order faltered as Harmer and Keshav Maharaj combined to dismantle the innings.

Next, the teams will meet again for the second and final Test in Guwahati on Saturday, November 22.
