In a tragic turn of events, renowned South African actress Esta Terblanche, famous for her roles in popular soap operas, has been found deceased at her residence in Los Angeles. The 51-year-old’s body was discovered on Friday after concerns were raised due to her absence of contact over several days.

The news of her passing was officially confirmed by her former colleagues, shedding light on the actress’s lasting impact on the entertainment industry. Esta Terblanche, who left South Africa in 1996 to pursue a career in the United States, was known for her portrayal of Bienkie Naudé Hartman in the dramatic series Egoli: Place of Gold.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office is currently investigating the cause of her death, with an autopsy scheduled to take place soon. Authorities discovered Terblanche’s body following a request from workers who had been unable to reach her and subsequently alerted the police.

Henko, Esta’s younger brother residing in New York, was contacted by the police, who then informed their family in South Africa about the devastating news. Burgert Muller, former executive producer of Egoli, expressed his shock and sadness at the news. “It’s truly heartbreaking to hear of Esta’s passing,” he stated. “She was such a bright light during her time on the show.”

This sentiment was echoed by Henry Mylne, a former director on Egoli, who recalled Esta’s journey into acting. “She started working with us just after completing her school exams,” he reminisced. “She had no prior professional acting experience, yet managed to hold her own alongside seasoned performers. Working with her was a delight; her beauty and talent were remarkable.”

Esta’s career in the entertainment world took off tremendously after she secured the lead role in Egoli, which aired from 1992 to 1995. The producers and her colleagues admired her professionalism and dedication to her craft, leading to her desire to expand her horizons beyond South Africa.

Determined, Esta left her home country in pursuit of fame and new opportunities in Hollywood. In 1997, she landed a significant role as Gillian Andrassy in the American daytime drama, All My Children, a performance that continued until 2001. Her immense talent quickly gained her recognition in the international arena.

In addition to her prominent roles, Esta made guest appearances on both Egoli and All My Children years later, reminding fans of her enduring presence in the industry. Her love for animals was also well known, with her frequently sharing photos of her pets on social media.

Esta’s notable journey in entertainment began when she was crowned Miss Teen South Africa in 1991. After the success of her role in Egoli, she continued to push herself, shining both on the small screen and in film, including her participation in Three Thieves and a Wedding, as well as appearances in series like Spin City and The Syndicate.

Prior to her untimely passing, Esta returned to South Africa for a visit just two weeks before her death, spending time with her family including her aunt and father. The actress, who was married to Andre de Kock from 1997 until their divorce in 2008, was also in a long-term relationship with fellow South African actor Neil Sandilands years ago.

The news of Esta Terblanche’s death has caused an outpouring of grief among her friends, family, and fans who admired her work both in South Africa and abroad. As details of her passing unfold, the entertainment community is mourning the loss of an exceptional talent whose legacy will not be forgotten.
