South African Ministers Distribute Blankets in Commemoration of Mandela Day

Christmas came early for train commuters at the Cape Town train station this morning, as Ministers in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni and Deputy Minister Kenny Morolong distributed blankets to the crowd.

Among the recipients was Bulelani Fumbeza from Keisriver, who expressed gratitude for the gesture on Mandela Day, emphasizing the warmth the blanket would bring on a cold day like today.

Andile Mchunu, a resident of the streets in Cape Town, also received a blanket and voiced his appreciation while hoping for more support in terms of jobs and housing.

The blanket distribution coincided with the global commemoration of Mandela Day and the upcoming Opening of Parliament Address by President Cyril Ramaphosa later in the evening.

Minister Ntshavheni, accompanied by Ministers Pemmy Majodina and Barbara Creecy, encouraged the public to tune in to the address, scheduled to take place at the Cape Town City Hall.

The Ministers visited the Cape Town station, a crucial hub for commuters, to engage with the community and raise awareness about the upcoming national address and the significance of Mandela Day.

As part of the event, the Transport Minister and PRASA officials unveiled a specially branded train marking 30 years of democracy in South Africa.

2024 signifies the 30th anniversary of South Africa’s democratic government, a milestone championed by Nelson Mandela.
