South Carolina Celebrates Senior Day Against No. 15 Kentucky

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 6 South Carolina Gamecocks will host the No. 15 Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m. for their regular season finale and Senior Day celebration, broadcasted live on ESPN.
This pivotal matchup marks the conclusion of the Gamecocks’ regular season as they aim to solidify their position for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. At stake is both a prestigious victory and the celebration of the contributions made by their senior players, including Sania Feagin, Bree Hall, and Raven Johnson, who have played vital roles in the program’s success over the years.
South Carolina heads into the game with a remarkable history against Kentucky, holding a 41-35 all-time series lead, including a dominant 25-11 record under head coach Dawn Staley since the 2008-09 season. The Gamecocks have won the last four encounters, outscoring the Wildcats decisively in both meetings last season.
According to Staley, ‘They’ve been probably the most successful class in the history of our program.’ The trio of Feagin, Hall, and Johnson has achieved two national championships, an undefeated season, and multiple SEC championships. Johnson, along with contributing during her freshman season, aims to leave a lasting mark on her team.
As the Gamecocks enter their final game, they boast impressive statistical performances this season. The team averages 41.9 points in the paint, leading the nation in that category. Additionally, four players have averaged at least 10 points in their last three games, showcasing the depth of talent on the roster.
Defensively, South Carolina is known for its strong shot-blocking presence, ranking fifth in the nation with an average of 5.8 blocks per game. The defensive efforts are led by Feagin and Johnson, who both rank among the league’s best shot-blockers.
“The journey for our seniors has been exceptional,” Feagin said. “We’ve all grown a lot, and I’m excited to take the court one last time with this incredible team.”
As fans prepare for the home finale, road closures and parking fees are expected around Colonial Life Arena. The Gamecocks are poised to carry momentum into the postseason, having consistently performed against ranked opponents this season.
In summary, South Carolina’s Senior Day promises not only a celebration of years gone by but also an important opportunity to set the tone for the challenges ahead. With a fervent home crowd expected to support the team, the Gamecocks hope to conclude their regular season on a high note against a formidable Kentucky side, potentially solidifying their status as a top contender for the NCAA Tournament.
