COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina guard MiLaysia Fulwiley is set to enter the transfer portal, marking a significant shift in the Gamecocks’ roster. Sources confirmed the news on Friday, highlighting Fulwiley’s impressive but turbulent tenure at her hometown school.

Fulwiley has been a pivotal player for South Carolina over the past two seasons, appearing in 77 games, though only starting three. Throughout her sophomore year, she averaged 11.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 43.2% from the field and 30.2% from three-point range. These statistics earned her accolades as an All-SEC Second Team selection and the Sixth Woman of the Year.

Fulwiley’s contributions were crucial to the Gamecocks’ success, as the team boasted a remarkable 73-4 record during her time in the program. The Gamecocks secured all four conference titles and made consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament finals, winning the national championship in 2024 and finishing as runners-up in 2025.

“MiLaysia was an integral part of our team and helped us achieve great heights,” South Carolina head coach said. “Her impact on and off the court was significant, and we look forward to seeing where the next chapter takes her.”

The news of Fulwiley’s transfer comes shortly after Florida State guard Ta'Niya Latson announced her commitment to South Carolina. Latson led Division I with an average of 25.4 points per game in the recent season, creating speculation that Fulwiley’s role might be diminished next season.

“With Latson’s arrival, it might be tougher for Fulwiley to find her rhythm in the lineup,” said sports analyst. “She’s a talented player but faces more competition for minutes and shot attempts.”

Fulwiley, a local star from Columbia, played high school basketball not far from Colonial Life Arena. Her presence and performance made her a fan favorite, especially during the championship run in 2024. However, her final game with South Carolina was marked by a disappointing performance, scoring only nine points on 4-of-7 shooting in the championship loss to UConn.

The decision to enter the transfer portal follows the trend of several players exploring new opportunities amid roster changes. This movement raises questions about the future dynamics of the Gamecocks as they adapt to new talent.

“We are excited about the players we are bringing in, but losing a homegrown talent like MiLaysia will be felt,” said the coach. “We wish her well in whatever comes next.”

As the transfer portal remains active, Fulwiley’s next destination is uncertain, but her skills will likely attract attention from numerous programs looking to bolster their rosters.
