South Carolina Welcomes High-Scoring Transfer Treysen Eaglestaff

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Treysen Eaglestaff, a four-star guard from North Dakota, has committed to the South Carolina men’s basketball team as he transfers from his previous school. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard made headlines this season with a remarkable 51-point game against South Dakota State and scored 40 points in another matchup against Alabama.
Eaglestaff’s decision comes after he officially visited South Carolina, where he was welcomed by head coach Lamont Paris. He chose the Gamecocks over a competitive field that included Kentucky, Kansas, and Gonzaga. Eaglestaff had an impressive season, averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, making him one of the top prospects in the transfer portal, currently ranked as the No. 33 overall player.
“I felt a strong connection with the coaching staff and players during my visit. South Carolina is the right fit for me to continue my development and compete at a high level,” Eaglestaff said in a statement.
This recruitment marks the second transfer commitment for the Gamecocks in as many days, as Providence transfer Christ Essandoko also confirmed his commitment after visiting the program. Essandoko is a four-star prospect ranked No. 127 overall and No. 34 among power forwards.
“We are excited about bringing both Treysen and Christ into our program,” Paris said. “They both bring talent and versatility that can immediately impact our roster. We are looking to build a competitive team in the upcoming season.”
Eaglestaff possesses one year of eligibility remaining, and the Gamecocks are actively targeting more players to bolster their roster as they aim to rebound from last season’s struggles. In addition to Eaglestaff and Essandoko, South Carolina is in pursuit of several other transfer portal candidates as they look to revamp their lineup.
The Gamecocks finished last season with hopes of entering the NCAA tournament, but significant roster changes are necessary for a fresh start. With the ongoing transfers and potential future additions, Gamecock fans remain hopeful about the direction in which the program is headed under Paris.
As the offseason progresses, South Carolina will continue its aggressive strategy in the transfer portal, aiming to secure commitments from talented players to enhance the team’s competitive edge. GamecockCentral promises further updates regarding the roster changes in the coming days.
