South Dakota State Basketball Team Eyes Summit League Success in 2024-25 Season
The South Dakota State basketball team, under the guidance of head coach Eric Henderson, is setting its sights on a successful 2024-25 season as they aim to clinch their first NCAA Tournament victory.
Despite a strong performance in the Summit League Tournament, the team led by Henderson has yet to secure an NCAA Tournament win during his five-year tenure.
With key departures of senior starters including Matt Mims, Charlie Easley, and Luke Appel, the Jackrabbits will look to their returning talent and incoming freshmen to maintain their dominance in the Summit League.
The Summit League, known for its unpredictability, is expected to pose challenges in the upcoming season with tough competition from teams like Kansas City and North Dakota.
Mayo, a standout guard from Lawrence, Kansas, will play a crucial role for South Dakota State after an impressive sophomore season, where he earned the Summit League Player of the Year award for two consecutive seasons.
Another player to watch is Alvarez, a promising guard from Yankton and former Wisconsin Badger, who brings valuable skills and size to the team.
Additionally, incoming freshman Larson from Estherville Lincoln Central High School in Iowa has been identified by Henderson as a player who could make an immediate impact with the Jackrabbits.
Barnhart, a towering presence at 7 feet tall, provides a unique skill set for Henderson to utilize, especially in spreading the floor alongside star player Mayo.
With the Summit League title within reach, the South Dakota State basketball team is gearing up for an intense and competitive 2024-25 season, with hopes of making a mark in the NCAA Tournament.
