Spencer Matthews Achieves World Record for Consecutive Marathons on Sand
Spencer Matthews, a broadcaster and reality television star, has successfully set a new Guinness World Record for the most consecutive marathons run on sand.
The 35-year-old completed a staggering 786 miles through the Jordanian desert under challenging conditions, with temperatures soaring to 45 degrees Celsius. Matthews commenced his journey in Wadi Rum and concluded near the Dead Sea.
Finishing his last marathon in four hours and 17 minutes, Matthews expressed disbelief at his achievements, stating that his ‘former self definitely wouldn’t believe it.’ He emphasized that this accomplishment marks not only the culmination of a remarkable journey but also the onset of a new chapter in his life.
Throughout this endeavor, Matthews has successfully raised over £340,757 for Global‘s Make Some Noise charity, which supports various local charities. He aims to accumulate £1 million in total, with donations being solicited through a link available in his Instagram bio.
Matthews has highlighted the incredible support from his team, which contributed to his success in minimizing injuries during the challenging run. Despite experiencing various minor issues, including hip, knee, and foot problems, he praised the professionalism of his support team in addressing these concerns before they escalated.
During his journey, Matthews maintained a focus on staying well-fueled and rested, despite the demanding environment affecting his sleep quality. He shared valuable insights on the resilience of the human body, particularly in extreme conditions.
