As the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris approach, the Australian team’s chef de mission, Anna Meares, is deeply invested in ensuring that her athletes achieve their dreams of Olympic success.

Meares, a six-time Olympic medallist who hung up her competitive wheels in 2016, is now responsible for guiding a contingent of 460 athletes representing Australia across 33 diverse sports throughout the duration of the Games.

In a recent conversation with A Current Affair host Ally Langdon at a charming café in Paris, Meares expressed her dedication to the preparations for the prestigious event. She shared insights on how she is working hard to set up the village where the athletes will stay, along with providing support tailored to the needs of each sporting team.

“For me, in this preparation, it’s been all about figuring out how we can optimally set up the village for the athletes, and understanding how best to support each sport as they arrive,” Meares elaborated. “It’s crucial for us to identify their main requirements for a successful performance.”

She reflected on the importance of her role, not just in driving the logistics behind the scenes, but also in assisting athletes in experiencing both the highs of competition and navigating the lows should they not achieve their desired outcomes. “I know from my own experience what those emotional peaks and valleys feel like, and it’s incredibly rewarding to help others through that journey,” she said.

As she gears up for the massive undertaking, Meares emphasized that, despite the substantial responsibilities, she relishes the challenge offered by this unique leadership opportunity. “It’s a significant task, but I thrive on challenges, and this role is a distinctive privilege that allows me to provide vital support to our athletes,” she stated with enthusiasm.

With the Games just around the corner, excitement builds not only for the athletes, but also for Meares as she prepares to contribute to their Olympic journey. Her commitment is palpable, and her desire to see her compatriots excel on an international stage underscores a profound sense of purpose.

The anticipation for the 2024 Paris Olympics is mounting, and with Anna Meares at the helm as the chef de mission, the Australian team is poised to pursue medal-winning achievements wholeheartedly.
